Awards & Achievements

Arch Academy's students have accomplished extraordinary milestones in disciplines ranging from academics to aquatics.

Private school student


  • Swam the west coast of Molokai in Hawaii (a first-ever swim), in heavy seas and strong winds, on August 3, 2016.  Planned distance: 24 miles, there and back.  The Zombies succeeded in the north-to-south leg, thereby earning the right to name the swim.  The return trip was called when the weather worsened and prevented further progress, despite valiant efforts of the team.  Total miles: 16. 

  • Zombies set a world record for the first ever relay swim between two islands off the southern California coast: Santa Barbara Island and Anacapa Island; a distance of 41 miles, on September 24th, 2015

  • Zombies completed the English Channel relay swim (from Dover, England to Wissant, France; 21 miles) on June 25th, 2015, finishing first out of a number of teams who competed from around the world. 

  • Zombies completed the Catalina Channel relay swim (from Catalina Island to Palos Verdes, CA; 21 miles) on September 6th, 2014

  • Zombie Patrol swim team completes the 22nd Annual Alcatraz Sharkfest swim (from Alcatraz to San Francisco; 1.5 miles) on June 7th, 2014

  • Taking part in a 4,546 participant swim-a-thon with the Rotary Club of La Jolla on February 25th, 2012. This charity event took place in 64 locations around the world and earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

  • Bill Horn, Chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, proclaimed August 4th, 2015 as Arch Academy Zombie Patrol Day throughout San Diego County
  • US Representative Scott Peters, 52nd District, presented certificates to each Zombie from the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, on August 18th, 2015
  • San Diego Mayor Faulconer proclaimed October 6th, 2015 to be Arch Academy Zombie Patrol Day in the city of San Diego
  • President Barack Obama sent a personal letter to the Zombies, recognizing their accomplishments and encouraging them in their future endeavors
  • Head of School Cheryl Allcock received the 2016 Community Leadership Award from the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (one of 50 nationwide recipients)
